Matthew Johnston

In this new era of post-indierockgoth-souldown-tempopbr&bdancetraphip-pop, let's put aside the old descriptors and call Matthew Johnston's debut album The World Will Break Your Heart what it truly is: honest.

Matthew Johnston has been committed to music since he was 13, beginning as a drummer and evolving into a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer. His debut full-length is the culmination of years of growth and struggle. Through all of the up-and-downs of young adulthood, Matthew persevered; performing, producing, arranging, and mixing his debut entirely on his own, finally arriving at this brave statement of unrelenting hope. The heart-rending songs are aimed squarely and unabashedly at the best parts of us without ignoring life's painful realities. It is music that is bright, big, and, above all, sincere.

Matthew Johnston Signs to 604 Records

London, Ontario native and prolific songwriter Matthew Johnston has signed to 604 Records in anticipation of his debut full-length record TheWorld Will Break Your Heart. The album, to be released in 2014, includes seventeen songs that continuously flow into one another without a single break in sound.

"I knew from an early stage that each song should be able to stand on it's own but together I wanted to tell a larger story."

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Matthew feels most comfortable on stage and has gained experience touring coast to coast. Aside from writing, producing and performing his own music Matthew has written and produced for SHAD, Classified and Kayo. He has also joined SHAD on stage as his touring drummer.

Matthew’s first single off the LP, “Explosions In The Sky” is both emotional and mature while maintaining a youthful exuberance. It struggles with the idea of love and loss and explores those fleeting moments we all have dealt with at some point in our lives.

"Explosions In The Sky is really about slowing down life. It's about trying to be present in every moment; something we can all get better at."

Look for “Explosions In The Sky” to hit radio this month, with a video and the LP to follow.
